 Western Australian Licence Classification

 

The Western Australian licence classifications and requirements are:

R-N (Moped)

You can get a class R-N licence at 16.

A class R-N licence will authorise you to ride any moped. A moped is defined as a motorcycle which has a propelling engine having a piston displacement not exceeding 50ml and which is designed so as to be capable of a speed not exceeding 60 km/h, whether or not it is also capable of being propelled as a pedal cycle, but does not include a power assisted pedal cycle.

R-E (Motorcycle Restricted)

You can get a class R-E licence at 17.

A class R-E licence will allow you to ride any:
  •  motorcycle with, or without, side car attachment with engine capacity not exceeding 250cc; and
  •  motor carrier with engine capacity not exceeding 250cc.

R (Motorcycle)

To get a class R licence you must have held a class R-E (Motorcycle) licence for at least one year.

A class R licence will allow you to ride any:
  •  motorcycle with, or without, side car attachment; and
  •  any motor carrier.
